medieval church window on offer - york freecycle

Just seen this being offered on York freecycle. may be of interest to someone here?

We have a dismantled Victorian stone folly in our garden, and that we believe is an arched window from a medieval church. Unfortunately we no longer have the space for it, but are loathe to put it all in a skip. It would need to be collected, and most of the pieces are too heavy to be moved by hand. Some form of machinery would therefore be necessary. It would be great to find it a new home!

I've gone one better and emailed him the York Freecycle ad in its entirety so he can contact them directly. I was overdue a conversation with him anyway. Naturally I will credit PP Forum with this gem and who knows he might start frequenting these pages looking for opportunities to salvage.

I see there was a post (The Brooking Collection) last year regarding Charles' collection and a putative new home for it near Tonbridge. All the Brooking Trust needs to do now is raise the £7m it's going to cost to build his new museum.

Anyone who has attended one of Charles' courses or visited his amazing half dozen portacabin and shed outhouses in Cranleigh cannot but be amazed and impressed by the man's spirit, imagination and sheer, dogged determination. Without this kind of private enterprise, so much of the understanding of our architectural heritage might have been - and undoubtedly still is being - lost.

There are numerous hits for salvage in the forum, some of them items where Charles' expertise and knowledge might be perfect. I think there was one about sash weights- right up his street. It's not entirely impossible that he may have spares in the collection for use by the forum users. I do take your point though about the forum's users not necessarily being a great source of items for him to take away, and quite right too!

Charles Brooking does not deal in 'salvage', he is a serious historian of architectural construction. His collection is made not of 'salvage' of no known provenanace, but of items rescued before demolition, carefully collected and dated with place and dates etc.

The thought that he might have a few 'spares' of sash weights and that people who read PPUK should call him or e-mail him to give out sash weights is ridiculous.
