If I remember correctly, the Collosseum cinema was the first in Glasgow to get Cinemascope. Also the first cinema I was ever in - "How the West was Won", which I guess ages me! Sad to see it go.

Penners, I guess it is all about context (and the eye of the beholder) but to me the student village picture you have shown is by no means at the worst end of the spectrum. In the Glasgow context, the student buildings reflect the form and scale of red sandstone tenements (red sandstone tending to be "posh" in Glasgow"!). Surely they are better than this, which is near the Colosseum Cinema (of the OP) and is completely out of context?

And aparently the first film to be shown in this exciting new way, was "How the West Was Won" in Oct '63 which (as they used to say) is where I came in...

No, worms, I agree that it's far from the worst example of what might have been perpetrated. But IMO it's committed the architectural crime that probably brings out the worst rants in me - it's lazy. "Can't be bothered" and/or "Oh, that'll do" architecture makes me very cross.
