9 months in to our restoration. Had chance to catch my breath and thought people may be interested to see some of the finds / what may be lurking under concrete floors! This was done for a) curiosity what was under the concrete, b) To stop damp travelling under the concrete and showing up in other areas. This procedure was preceded by lowering of ground levels outside.
Concrete / cement pointing removed from the stone flags on the ground floor. Flags layed to earth. Good enough for us, I believe in minimum intervention to the traditional methods. Plus I'm a Yorkshireman and tight so would never pay for UFH
.
No before pics sadly as dropped my phone and broke it during concrete removal
.
Step 1) Remove layer of magnesite. Step 2) Remove 6'' of concrete. Step 3) Be amazed that underneath there is 75% of the original flags. Step 4) Replace 25% of missing flags. Step 5) Clean flags. Step 6) Repoint flags in lime.
