Marmoleum flooring

Has anybody used Marmoleum click flooring? I'm thinking of using it in our kitchen, as a change from my usual choice of Rhino cushion flooring. The brochure says that it is easy to install and live with, and I'm particularly interested in the claim that it can be put straight down on another floor providing it is to within 2 cms of a reasonably level surface. I have removed the budget priced imitation black slate and found a well laid standard ceramic floor underneath which gives a cold and unforgiving surface. ( no heat store Aga this time )

It's production involves the cultivation of a lot of pretty blue flowers rather than the production of crude oil.

I've not used it or seen it used, but it looks an interesting product. However, some blurb I was reading stated 'not suitable for bathrooms due to HDF layer' - in other words, get it wet and it'll swell up along the joins. So it may not be to clever for a kitchen floor that needs to be proof against spills and can stand wet mopping. A sheet floorcovering has to be a better solution.

We've got Marmoleum on the floor of our downstairs loo, and it's proved very satisfactory indeed. I've just checked, and it's definitely tiles.
It was supplied and laid by John Lewis, on a suspended floor covered with something smooth (hardboard? ply?...).
Been down for over ten years and showing no signs of wear, tear, swelling or shrinkage.

However, yes, point taken about kitchen spills and wet mopping. Also those clumsy fellas in my house who always seem to manage to overturn the dogs drinking bowl, leaving a flood of water running around the floor.

Marmoleum is of course the posh name for a certain brand of lino. It's not what you get when the marmalade toast lands sunny side down on the linoleum.

Joce P - did you go for the marmoleum floor for your kitchen in the end? How did you find it?

My uncle and aunt have it in their kitchen, loo and bathroom, and it seems to have been extremely hard wearing, although they had the sheet rather than the click. Even when I scratched it really badly, the colour goes all the way through so the scratch doesn't really show.

I'm thinking of going for it in our kitchen, but I'm wondering about click rather than sheet.

We.ve just today got to the stage of making decisions about our kitchen floor. It's been a long wait!

I read about Marmoleum in a glossy house mag, then I googled it and sent for some samples, which I have now lost.

As we have removed 2 floor coverings, slate, polished travertine, and now got down to an old marley floor I shall probably cost up marmoleum versus cushion flooring and see what my kitchen fitter suggests re click or sheet. I suppose the decision will depend on how many holes left over
from the alteration of the kitchen units that we have to self level.

People do seem to speak extremely highly of it, and making it does involve the cultivation of pretty blue flowers!

I think I'll pop into John Lewis and see if they've got any samples. The possible idea is to go for a black and white checked floor effect with the clicks. I'll let you know what we decide, but based on my uncle and aunt's experience, you couldn't get much more hard wearing while at the same time warm.

Just to let you know that the man in John Lewis was quite bemused at the idea that the Click marmoleum isn't suitable for kitchens. He said the only way he thought it could not work would be if the floor wasn't levelled before laying, and if it was then fitted so the pieces were not all entirely horizontal.
