What kind of bricks do you reckon these are? I've been wanting a path like this out front but reclaimed bricks are £1 ish each and soft bricks would suffer from frost damage if laid like that wouldn't they?
They certainly do look like quarry tiles. We had a herringbone pattern of soft red bricks in one of our properties, they did get rather crumbly after a while.
I am finding quite a few white bricks around the garden, they could be woolpit whites.
Yellow bricks were my first thoughts but all ive seen looked like they might not survive as a path all that well.
Winter does take its toll on brick paths, especially the latest one- which destroyed around 3 bricks in mine. I love our herringbone brick path to the front door though- it's maybe around 25 years old now? Hard to say, but still looking good I think.
Whether it was made with reclaimed bricks or not is interesting to speculate, I'm pretty certain the previous owner made use of local derelict houses, although these bricks look too large to match the really old bricks used in this area.
Anyway I wouldn't let considerations of weather put you off, bricks can always be turned or replaced if they get really bad. if the path is sheltered by trees it will be protected to an extent.
We have bits and bobs of low garden walls built before we got here from soft reds taken from the house and outbuildings. They really don't like being wet and cold - several have completely disintegrated.
If you're looking for that effect then you might want to look at lower quality floor bricks and pamments - something not perfect enough for a kitchen might be fine for a garden path?
