Just passing this on as some of you may wish to contribute to the exercise, and hopefully slow the flow of money away from the historic built environment and into the Olympics. It may be a forlorn hope, but nothing ventured etc.:
There are currently two opportunities for you to have a say in how lottery funding is used.
1) Consultation on the shares of National Lottery money for the arts and film, sport, and heritage.
This is the DCMS consultation regarding what share of the money for good causes each distributor will get after 2009. Heritage currently receives about 16%, so if we want to maintain a good share of funding for the archive sector, through the Heritage Lottery Fund, then now is the chance to make your voice heard. For more information on this consultation see http://www.lottery2009.culture.gov.uk/index.html.
2) Our Heritage, Our Future, Your Say - Consultation on the Heritage Lottery Fund's next strategic plan 2008-2013
In the context of the DCMS consultation, the Heritage Lottery Fund are currently collecting views about their own priorities for funding after 2007. Again, if we want to ensure that historic buildings are able to continue to access funding from this distributor then your input would be helpful. For more information on this consultation see http://www.hlf.org.uk/future/.
Various stakeholders will be responding to both consultations. However, contributions from a range of organisations and individuals would help to strengthen the case for continued funding for building conservation from the lottery, via the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Both consultation have deadlines of 28 February 2006.
