looking for a 'good address'?

Idly flipping through the property section of today's Telegraph when I spotted a four square late Georgian house for very little money (in my view). Ever inquisitive I checked out http://www.rightmove.co.uk ----location Grimoldby, £275K-------- ripe for the picking, but above all a hilarious address----!

BUT in complete contrast and Oh I would love it---www.georgianProperty.com----- Crowland manor house----- what a beauty inside--oh well, must dream on I suppose!

That is one dilapidated building. It is charming but the subsidence can probably be measured in feet

I'm saving up for this one. Shifnal is quite nice and there are a few cheap Georgian places for sale there, but this is the best. Not cheap though.

I love looking at Georgian properties, thanks for posting those. Grimoldby would be a lovely place to live - stunning scenery in the Lincs Wolds, quiet, and then with charming and well heeled Louth nearby. I'm not so sure about Crowland but those interiors are to die for! How fascinating, and how cheap! What a beautiful place for somebody to lovingly look after. I don't know the area plastic is posting about but that is a very handsome house.

Still I wouldn't swap my BC for any of them and always think what a tremendous bargain it was. Detached, Regency, 4 beds, 3 receptions, 4 acres, sweeping views, and best of all no neighbours for a mile, and just an hour and ten to get to London, all way under 400 k! OK we run out of water and are overrun with rain beetles and owls, and in the winter I freeze, but I'll never leave and just love it more and more as each year goes by.

The Grimoldby house appears to be in a nice setting, but for me it has a lot of minuses:

The roof overhang is too small, and looks wrong.
The interior shots show vile fireplaces, plus equally vile arched niches on each side of one of them.
Varnished beams in a Georgian house?! :evil:
Some horribly proportioned windows in the bedrooms.

Lots of useful outbuildings though - certainly lots of house for the money.

The house looks lovely on the outside but does need doing up a bit inside, I like most wouldn't recognise varnished beams in such an house being a wrong thing so no panic there! Is the location bad? the surrounding houses and nice looking Church don't seem so bad to me.

It needs more than a bit of doing up inside!
Somebody, sometime, has done a pretty thorough job of stripping out anything that could be described as "Georgian".
And the agents' floorplan doesn't help; try as I might, I haven't been able to reconcile the photograph of the front of the house with the drawing. They seem to have left out the front door.

If you think that is bad there is a big old farmhouse near me from the 1600's and they have a fake front door and windows to boot. Only half the house has windows and they must use a side or back door. Tragedy!

Another house near me is only lived in half of it, other the last winter the other half has fallen in....but they still live there!
