Look what i found!

Stripping some wallpaper yesterday, which came off easily, i seem to have found the original decorations.

I think ill keep one wall and wallpaper if it's all still there. Any ideas what period this paper might be? My house was built in 1904.

Late Victorian? But the border looks slightly Deco...?

What a great find!

Yes, In keeeping with the date of your house. Probably the latest wacky design at the time, hence the Deco look to the border, moving away from the heavy Victorian floral design. The colours are typical as well. Worth keeping some exposed if it does not interfer with your picture hanging plans. I have seen panels of original wall paper protected with perspex.

It does indeedy have a space invader resemblance. I'm going to uncover the whole wall, and this wall we will keep original wallpaper. I've got seven more rooms to check. I've followed this wallpaper and it's still there behind the recent paper, all the way down the upstairs hall, stairway, down stairs hall...

I intend to rent my house out in a year or so. i hope the tenants like the Victorian look... well tough they'll have too! ;-)

It looks like the Arts and Crafts style to me, a bit earlier than Deco. In 1904 the A/C style would have been getting a bit long in tooth and was starting to fade into Art Nouveau, but would have still been very common in a middle-class, conservative house.

Art Deco came later (although it's not a straight linear progression. No law was enacted in 1910 saying "thou shalt now decorate in the Deco Style", so there was a lot of overlap.)

It's interesting to see those samples, although I think that even if I had seen it new, I wouldn't have liked those three papers used together. I'd like to see a sample of the top paper a bit better; it has a Wm. Morris school look to it.
