Seeing the post on the Longcase clock and the finish reminded me that we have a Grandmother clock, but the case was munched by woodworm. I would love to find a new or old case - where do I start? Does anyone have any ideas?
eBay is awash with them. One has to go and collect, of course.
But, a lot of clocks from the 20s (Grandmother era) have never been serviced and are in practical terms, worn out. Not to say that they can't be restored to life, but in my view the best thing is to go to an antique clock specialist with a physical shop and buy one. It will cost more than a lucky dip from eBay, but you'll know what you're getting, and a good clock will be with you for a lifetime.
I bought a bracket clock from an eBay 'clock specialist' recently, it was four figures but still needed me to do some work on it.
Also depends therefore on your ability to fix things.
