Logging in problems

Does anyone else have problems logging in? Each time I visit the site I have to log in twice before it'll accept me :? This is despite having accepted cookies and checking the box to automatically log me in. This has only been happening since the changes to the website. Before that, everything was fine. Anyone know what's going on?

I find the same - yet using the 'log in to check new messages' facility works the first time.

I keep getting dropped out also, and have to log back in. I use tabbed browsing (my computer is switched on most of the day as it's in use) in order that I can flick into and out of various pages, no idea if this has anything to do with it but it seems to be only this site.

I have not found the 'remember me' facility to work, old site or new.

Don't know! The last major prob we had, when posts appeared anything up to a week after pressing the submit button, vanished overnight following Freeserve becoming Wanadoo I recall...

No longer my ISP I add.

Ah well, I'm still with Wanadon't, so we can't blame it on our ISP this time. Wonder what else could be wrong?

I've not found a problem with this forum, but a lot of users of IE have noticed an update recently meant that their computer, although set to accept cookies didn't appear to be doing so.
Have you both recently accepted a MS update?

No other site is giving problems and this one always has.

Peoples reports were that some sites worked and some didn't, why I don't know and so far there hasn't been any offical MS response.

I don't know if Rob or Simon upgraded the version of phpbb they are using when they introduced the new colour scheme, that could be the only reason the forum is causing it.

Have either of you updated your antivirus/firewall/spyware software at all?

Checked in there that the site is allowed to use cookies, as well as in IE?

In IE go tools>internet options>Privacy>sites and manually add the bb site (http://periodpropertyshop.co.uk/phpBB2/index.php)to the list and click allow
In privacy alkso look at advanced settings, you could try changing these to override and always accept first party/third party cookies and session cookies and try again.

About all I can think of offhand. It's odd that only a couple are having problems, maybe more will report they are as they log on during the day?

Firefox?
I am assuming you both use IE.

As it only takes a second to log in it's nota big deal for me, not worth changing browser for.

It's just it happens, and this is the only site that doesn't always remember me!

Trying another browser would have told us whether it was an IE or pc problem.

My reply would be the same as Nem's. Everything on my machine is up to date. No problems with any other website. Not worth changing browser for as it's a minor niggle.....but it happens :?

Again I wasn't suggesting you change yor browser permanently, just trying another one to see if we could pinpoint the problem.

FWIW and its not much.
I've never had any luck getting the remember me option to work here.

I'd always figured it was a cookie problem with the different domains used for the different pages. IE tends to be very fussy about cross domain handling as there were so many terrible security flaws in previous versions that allowed cross site breaches.

If you arrive at http://www.periodproperty.co.uk/discussion_forum.htm it loads a frameset

NOTE the periodpropertyshop.co.uk domain for the page content is different to the periodproperty.co.uk domain used by the base page and displayed in the browser address bar.

Then you click login and the username and password page is also in periodpropertyshop.co.uk but the frameset remains in the original periodproperty.co.uk domain.

Adjusting the links so the main frameset page uses the periodpropertyshop.co.uk domain might cure it. I use lots of sites using PHPBB but this is the only one that refuses to remember me. It probably affects infrequent visitors most as they may not remember their usernames and passwords and have to rerequest passwords or may register more than once.

I use IE6 on XP all patched to date - again it's not important enough to clog the registry with yet another program to do the same job as another.

Mine's IE7 with XP - and I agree re clogging things up with extra stuff!

You can install and uninstall it (use system restore) after trying it, so no clogging up, just a few minutes of time.
