My mother found up the estate agents sale papers the other day, These were from 27 years ago and pretty basic compared to modern day 'portfolios'.
In the writing it states 'we believe this building to be listed', Its doesnt say any grades or anything else.
Is this a selling point? 'We believe' translates to 'it isnt really just sounds better!?'
Anyway she must have skipped that bit when reading as she said only just noticed it!
In the research we have done over the years they have found out this was the school mistresses cottage in 1800's and before that the origional part was the village smithy.
There is a splodge on the tithe map and records of a building in its place on a locally drawn map from alot earlier.
If this place is listed it certainly isnt how it should be due to extensions throughout its long life.
We have a picture taken in 1914 of a couple who lived here standing out front posing for the camera, we did a modern day picture that hangs by its side, dog included.
The strange thing is the fields out back i used to metal detect, I found the dog ID tag with our house for address, a roughly engraved copper disk with a hole in it for attaching to a collar. Its nice to have found that! makes the people seem more real, Something to touch.
Anyway if this place is listed where do i look?, Is this something that would have been looked into when PP was submitted in 1983 ? Nothing was said.
We cant read the deeds for them being photcopies of very old handwritten script type writing, It read perches, rods and chains which i know are measurements but that most of what i can read.
