Not just that. It puts scheduled monuments (for the first time) in the hands of Planning Committees, it introduces a potential defence of "I didn't know it was listed", it will dilute and overstretch the specialist knowledge bases that already exist, and (given the fact that no extra money is likely to be made available) it weakens and overloads the whole system quite badly.

And I recall the response from SAVE to the consultation last year which asked exactly why these changes were to be made, where was the evidence base for the claimed clamour?

I gather buffer zones for WHS have been dropped. Well, WHS seem to be OK in abstract idea, but they tend to get in the way of crass developments.

I have to say I've been putting off the evilk moment when i read it in depth.

I keep finding more important things to do like clean fluff from under the bed and wash my socks. Becaue I know it won't make things better...

Well I think the answer was known, but it was a valid question... to which I suspect there was never an official answer given...

Look out too for what will happen with 20th c buildings. Ms Hodge doesn't like those.
