On hearing of a dodgy planning application for conversion of a landmark Victorian building on Margate's seafront into flats, including the ground floor, my girlfriend (of 13 years) applied to English Heritage for a spot listing. The application was passed and the listing arrived a few days later. The main issue was the curved windows -too expensive to repair, wouldn't have met building regs and would have probably been ripped out. Also the shopfronts would have been lost.
