So have bitten the bullet and going for Histocolour "restoration white" linseed oil paint for our 17 new timber sapelle windows for our grade II listed farmhouse as part of an extensive renovation.
Having looked at various posts here and their own info I will be doing minimum 3 coats. first two in workshop without glazing, then fit glazing then third final coat in situ Three questions:
1- Does the mix stay the same for all three coats, ie: Balsam Turps, boiled linseed oil, linseed oil paint at suggested ratios on their helpful videos. The videos on their site say yes but the man i spoke to said the mix for the priming coat then just pure linseed paint for other 2?
2 - Is it worth a base coat of just boiled linseed oil prior to the priming coat?
3- Posts regarding holkhams paints suggest using zinc oxide @ 20% for priming coat to fight against chance of mould? Would this be wise or does the pine balsam turps do a similar job?
Any other tips/ methods you used would be very handy. 17 windows to paint, how long could that take....... many thanks!
