Linseed oil paint - emulsion

I had a nice letter from Tom Coke of Holkham Linseed Paints (I'm not special - I expect everyone who has ever bought a can of paint from them got the same letter) extolling the undoubted virtue of Allback's paint for external joinery.

But one line caught my attention.

Holkham Linseed Paints can be used in other applications too, such as internal or external breathable emulsion (made by mixing them with water) on plaster, render or masonry walls.

Anybody tried this?

I've not tried it, when I get round to plastering, amybe I will try it out on the hidden bits first to see how it goes. I'll report back in about 2 years time then..........

Well I'll go to the foot of our stairs - I'VE NOT HAD A LETTER EITHER - I'm gutted and after all I've done to promote the Holkham industry!!

But I'm interested to hear about the application to walls (wouldn't it give a slghtly 'silk' effect finish though) ? - however I'm having a love affair with Rose of Jericho Pale Ochre Distemper so sadly no I won't be trying it!

No, but I've just tried Ingilby Mariner's black linseed oil emulsion - sounds the same kind of thing. I used it on my new garage - first impressions are very good. Obviously time will tell on the durability.

Ah ha, thanks. Sounds an interesting challenge.

Challenge indeed! I reckon that applying 3 - 4 coats of the stuff (which at that dilution will be pretty much as wet as water) with a roller will have a fallout zone akin to Chernobyl.

Perhaps it's just me, but I actually prefer the texture you get with a brush to that from a roller. And there's less washing up to do.
