Hi all,
First post on this site..!
I am restoring Grade II listed property and have been using lime putty mixed with sand for the render/plastering.
We have also rerun/repaired the damaged cornices/embellishments with plaster of Paris+ Lime Putty.
Unfortunately the previous owner had patch plastered some of the lime walls with multifinish (a gypsum product).
I tried to limewash the wall but after one coat there is a different colour between the gypsum areas and the lime areas…I have since learnt this is due to the different absorption rates on the wall. Also the lime has not bound to the gypsum, it is chaulky.
The question:
Is it possible to seal the wall with a product to achieve the same absorption rate and make the lime adhere to the gypsum areas?
I have bought Selenite 30-40% and plan on diluting it 1:2 with water as I have read it is used to achieve similar absorption rates but I don’t have much hope.
Do I maybe have to settle with a different finish (clay paint?)
Also can I put limewash on cornices as they are plaster or Paris which is gypsum?
Thanks in advance,
Ben
