Lime Wall - touching floor?

I'm in the process of getting my walls re-plastered, but this time in lime. All of the old gypsum plaster has been hacked off and now the scratch coat of lime has gone on.

My question is should the lime be all of the way down the wall, or should it be kept 1 or 2 inches off the floor? I always thought that it should be kept off the floor and the skirting board covers the gap.

Anyone got any advice?

Well, ours touch the floor because we're not having any skirting boards

I always leave a couple of inches gap unless otherwise instructed, this is generally to avoid bridging any DPC that may be pressent but also you don't pick up any dirt on your trowel, very anoying when you're doing the final polish and a bit of grit scratches right up the wall. It used to be the case that skirting boards were fitted first and the plaster came down to them
