Boy, great site. I’ve been reading about lime and sand plaster for the last few hours here, and as you can imagine there area still a lot of questions.
First off, some one mentioned a book called “Building with Lime” but when I went to bookfinder.com I found a few books of that title by different authors. Which author should I chose? Any other good books?
I’m in the US and so I was especially interested in Suji’s posts. However, I’m out in the middle of no where so it would be best if I found local sources for materials, as opposed to ordering and shipping things in. Ask anyone locally about lime plaster and you might as well be speaking French. Is there a substitution for hair? I’m not even sure where I would start to look for horse hair. Also, is it possible to make your own lime putty as opposed to buying it? Some walls just need patching but others need to be rebuilt from scratch.
I plan on ordering the Mike Wye's video and hope it plays for me. I think I read that it should play on my PC if it won’t play on the DVD player.
A little bit about my house: 1895 Queen Anne in No. California on the coast. Most interior walls are in tact, although in need of much repair. I repaired the kitchen and bath walls with gypsum (don’t hate me) because I couldn’t live in the house unless I got those walls fixed and the rooms working. The place was cut-up in to 4 apartments in the 1920s and I’m putting it all back together.
I write incessantly on the blog about my house and there is another site with pictures. The walls themselves are unique in the way they are constructed. You can read about that if it interests you at the link below.
Thanks,
Greg
