Lime Rendering quote!

just quick rant : had a builder round to quote for removing concrete rendor off a damp wall and replacing it with lime render.
quote was estimated at about 3k ... but he'd send us a written breakdown in the post....
Just phoned him to clarify a few things inc the fact that i wanted a pure lime plaster, without concrete or other hardeners, the quote leapt up another 2grand.
arrghhhh.

can anyone recommend a builder that could do this for us (remove concrete render, apply a lime one) we are based in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire

The problem is that most of the plasterers available want easy work where they can make good money and on bonus working for wimpey homes or similar.

You mention "lime" to anybody who is willing to do it and the price goes sky high.

Hi

Had another builder round to quote for removing current concrete render & applying a lime render to our wall (see first post above). this one talked himself out of the concrete render removal & lime rendor application job and instead seems to think we need to cap the chimney to stop the rain getting down chimney breasts (admittidly the majority of bubbling-up paint etc is concentrated around chimney breasts). oh he'd also cut out the plaster where the bubbling up is occuring and re-plaster.

aarrgghh dont know what to think now!

NT may be right. You need a cold chisel and bolster, stout gloves for when you miss and stout arms, though they will develop over the job.

I removed the render from the front of our house over 2 weekends using a bolster and hammer. I had to give up a few times as my elbow let go and I couldn't hit anymore.

It may be hard(ish) work, but alot cheaper than a builder!

One other way is to get someone in thats never done it before, theyre often willing, if youre brave
