Lime render

I have lime render over granite at the front of my georgian house. It has been painted over the years and there is evidence that earlier paint had flaked beneath the current finish. The render itself appears to be in good order, so how do I remove the paint layers. One builder has suggested re-lime renderering, another sand blasing the paint off.

Sand blasting is likely to remove the render as well as the paint, I'm afraid.
You can either scrape the paint off (which will be easier if the bottom layer has lost adhesion) or use chemical means (try Strippers of Sudbury). One way is labour intensive, the other is messy!
