I have lime renders almost an entire house with a lime mixed with sand and crushged slate for effect (the intention was not to lime wash the walls but to leave them natural). In order to bring out the grains and slate it was suggested we use a diluted acid on the walls (I've done this before and it worked out okay). I have been away for a week and they have done this to almost all the walls but this has resulted in patchiness and what looks like darker drip like patches on the walls which is not such a desireable look. I am hoping that as it dries further this will fade. Has anyone else know the use of acid wah in this way?

No, but if I wanted the effect you mention I would have used a stiff brush to whack the surface when partly set to expose the bits and pieces.
