Lime Plastering

Hi, I have moved into a Victorian terrace which in the front room on the external wall there was damp on removing the concrete to bare brick there was a strong smell of damp also there was a very hard black ' concrete' like substance which when chipping off had sparks coming from it. Any way on the lower 12 inch or so of the wall the paint is bubbling in places on scraping this off there are white deposits which I'm guessing is salt? I Have started to re plaster with a lime sand mix on the internal wall. Would this sought out the external salt deposits? Also noticed on part of the newly plastered wall there is a white patch which I'm guessing is salt. Will this stop showing once the plaster has dried?

Make sure the external ground levels are lower than inside to stop damp ingress

Salts can be brushed away but may return and take time to deal with, remember if the wall has been damp for a long time it will take just as much time to dry out.

I actually tried permaguard salt neutraliser on a wall 2 nights ago, the wall is at the back door about 14 inches wide, I suspect a few through stones are contributing to the coldnes of this wall.
The cement pointing was removed 6 months ago and the wall looks great now, the smell was terrible for 2-3 hours, it is then cleaned with clean water prior to decoration.
The wall looks pretty good now ready for painting with something breathable.
