Lime plaster over cement pointed internal wall

Hi, just looking for a little advice.
Bought a house (circa 1750) with a exposed internal stone wall with cement pointing. Currently having the external adjacent wall cement strap pointing removed to be replaced with lime mortar so external wall can breath. Will then get the internal stone wall lime plastered, again so it can breathe. Do I need to remove the internal cement pointing before it is plastered ? Thanks in advance for any advice.

The answer somewhat depends on the type of stone and its properties, but really the answer is yes. A wall manages moisture mostly through its joints

No point going to the huge expense/effort of line plastering unless you’re onto the right substrate.

No need to re-point internally, just use a nice haired / hemp base coat and push it into the gaps between stones. Unless the gaps are really deep, in which case pack with small stones / pieces of brick, tile etc…
