Hi,
Is lime plaster compatible with bathrooms/wet rooms? A quick search didn't really provide anything conclusive.
We've just removed the not so gorgeous pampus green 1970's tiles from the bathroom walls (the bathroom was fully tiled) and have found that the plaster underneath is mainly gypsum with a few areas of lime.
There is one external wall (stone) that has 80% of "blown" lime plaster. We are undecided if to just strip the unusable plaster and repoint the stone work and limewash/leave exposed. Are there any reasons why this may be a bad idea?
The remaining three walls are internal and are of brick construction and are mainly gypsum plaster. We are hoping to get away with just having splash backs, with maybe one wall (behind the shower/bath) fully tiled.
Obviously "back in day", bathrooms didn't technically exist, so we just want to make sure if we remove the remaining gypsum and patch the room up with lime plaster, would it cope with:
1) The extra humidity of a bathroom
and
2) Wall Tiles.
Hope that all makes sense.
Cheers,
W.
