Lime Paint on interior wall

Have removed very old plaster off interior brick wall, of our kitchen which at one point was an exterior wall , date unsure. Its a good wall and we are going to repoint it (in lime)
I am assuming it is lime wash/paint on it and I am looking for the best way to remove it. I know this subject has been covered before, however couldn't find an answer for interior wall removal. Thank you for any help

Just bumping this back up as you seem to have been overlooked. The usual response is that someone who knows more will be along in a short while, however, can I ask why you removed the very old plaster in the first place?

Your message is a little confusing. You say you have removed the old plaster and that you are going to repoint in lime. You then say you are looking for the best way to remove the lime wash / paint. Is this under the old plaster that you removed?. That would be a little unusual because I'm not sure it was common to paint bare brick walls, especially if the plaster you have taken off is as old as you think it is.

Is your intent to keep the wall bare once you've clean and repointed it, or did you actually mean to say that you plan to replaster in lime rather than repoint?. Pictures would help.

The point of your question appears to be " the best way to remove lime wash/paint off from an internal wall " .

My quesstion is " what is the reason why you need to remove it". If you give the reason and also determine if it is lime wash or paint that you are trying to remove you may get a more satisfactory answer to you problem.

Lots of walls have been limewashed/painted then lime rendered later.

(Well ok, I know of one, our outside wall - I found the remains of lime wash / paint direct onto the stone and the remains of some lime render when I removed the cement overcoat. I doubt our house it particularly unusual though.)

To be honest, I took some cement render off the inside of an external wall last week and the bricks where left with a coating of something. I didn't think it was lime wash or paint and was more of a residue from what might have been absorbed from the original lime render. Although I would re-plaster in lime anyway, I would be interested to know what it really is.

Diluted "unibond" ( and sometimes neat) was used to stabilise porous and "loose"masonary walls before they were rendered. This leaves a white/grey film on the masonary when the render falls off or removed ( unless the masonary comes away with render)
A quick fix solution and totally inappropriate way to fix " period" buildings.
The glue like substance is absorbed by the masonary and it is a nightmare to remove ( actually impossible, unless extensive damage is created on the masonary face)
