Lime over render?

Is it possible to lime plaster over modern cement render? This is for a bedroom in which two walls retain the original plaster and the other two have been rendered back in the seventies. Ideally we'd remove it altogether (the render not the bedroom!}, but for now just not a practical option.

I asked a similar question a while ago and if you do a search you may come up with the answer. In the end we removed the render! It came away more easily than we thought.

General opinion seemed to be the problem is getting the stuff to stick as you may not be able to get it wet enough for the lime. One suggestion was to use screws in the render to provide a key.

Another idea as a 'temporary' measure is a false wall - dry lining - with plaster over, or wooden cladding - painted - depends on the house and how you want it to look.
