Lime and plasterboard

Anyone used Lime plaster over normal plasterboard? does this work?
If so would you just use a 3mm coat of setting stuff instead of gypsum skim -do both work by suction?

want to make a quick partition and lime is so much more user friendly.

I've had to repair some ceilings that had already been boarded over. It really wasn't worth pulling the plasterboard down and repairing the ceiling properly with lime. In fact, I used a ready mixed skim plaster (not lime or bagged gypsum).

I'm not sure if I'd bother with lime on plasterboard as you won't get the breathability of a proper lime plastered wall anyway. The appearance is another matter - large flat panels with staggered joints are going to look very different to lath work. The joints between panels may also become more obvious with future movement and cracking of the skim coat.

I've used lime over plasterboard and, yes, it works, but it's a lot of effort for little real point.
In fact, having done the one wall of a new bathroom in lime over plasterboard, I thought "sod this for a game of soldiers" and used a gypsum skim for the other wall and ceiling. Much quicker, both in application and set.

As others have said, I don't really see the point of using lime plaster over plasterboard. If you're after a roughish look to your wall, just use a general purpose plaster and trowel it badly. Believe me - I'm an expert on the subject!

Me too, David!

I tell people that it's taken me years to perfect the 'rustic' finish to my plastering.

At least with lime plaster I've got a chance to get the stuff on the wall, and reasonably flat before it sets.

My first attempts with gyspum ended rather badly, when I needed a chisel to get the stuff out of the bucket I'd mixed it in.
