lime and chalk plaster adhesion to daub?

i am having trouble with my lime putty , hair and chalk plaster adhering to daub. ive tried different dampnesses of plaster and wetted the daub down and still no adhesion in places. lots of cracking.
should i add a little sand perhaps?

Sorry I don't have an answer for you, I have only seen it done on television, we are plastering onto stone here or that board that looks like Weetabix. Hope you get an answer soon and good luck.

i plastered my newly renovated bathroom wall last year over daub(also replaced) using lime putty hair and sharp sand i think the mix was 2:1and had no problems at all so not being an expert looks like the addition of sand could be your answer

I've never tried this myself but if you make up a slurry of the plaster and slap that on the wall, let it dry a little, then apply the drier plaster mix it should have better adhesion.

Which is the same idea as a harling coat I think. I've seen it done (and had a disastrous very quick go myself) and may be worth investigating.

that sounds like a really good idea , i shall try that , thank you Joe.
i am apprehensive about adding sand as the chalk and putty mix when dry can be sanded down to give a really beautiful finish , this also takes out any hair that is on the surface.
