Letterbox

Hello all
I have a Edwardian house, my letterbox is original and let's in a large draft, the wood is original wood, what would be the best letterbox cover for the inside that would keep it sealed but also look good?
Any ideas welcome

That's a nice door and rim lock! Does the letterbox flap spring back???? If it is just flapping about loose you should put a spring on it to get the flap to snap shut. I'm sure there must be a letterbox spring supplier but if not, a spring can be fashioned out of a mouse trap spring. If you mean that its draughty even when sprung shut, then I don't know the answer.

I'd be really interested to see a picture of the front of your house, where abouts are you located???

I know someone ( not on this forum ) who purchased from these people, lots of choice comes up if you put "internal flap" into the on site search box. This is one example.

I went and queued for a DIY shed one, and although it was cheaper it's a bit flimsy. I have had an issue with the screw that attaches on the side of the flap, and it can stick or not sit right sometimes. At some point I shall probably trade up, a deeper one would look better balanced. The letterplate itself has an integrated knocker so is centred, even though the postal slot isn't. Our door doesn't open to the street as it's in an Edwardian mansion block, so it doesn't really have to keep out cold wind.



This one looks nice too, has a lining inside to help it stay sealed and draughtproofed.

It was clearly the home of a publisher at one time, with a letterbox designed to allow authors to post their drafts through the door for his inspection.

For letterbox draught exclusion, the most effective thing that I have found is not, I'm afraid, very beautiful. It consists of a set of bristles set around a letterbox-shaped frame that you screw on the inside of the door. You can get them in various colours: white or brown plastic, silver metal, yellow metal, etc., and with or without a flap to cover up the bristles.

Just dont have a letter box , the post man will soon get fed up and stop delivering letters to you , then you wont need one anyway.
