Background: Tall Sash Window, Modern Room
Issue: A sheer curtain, and an opaque curtain in front.
Question: What type of lighting device can you use if you want to place it behind the sheer curtain, but powerful so that it lights up the sheer, creating a white-ish diffused light.
I was at an Ian Schraeger hotel recently, and saw this application. The light source was powerful, and in this case, was a fluorescent type. It lit up the sheer, so that nice, soft light entered the room, and also, b/c the light source was behind the curtain, it caused a (surprising) white sheet effect, so that it was not as see-through during the mid evening. My focus is not on creating privacy anyway, it's more about the look of backlit sheers and the warm glow.
The challenge is: What light source to use? LED? I need something really powerful, and not just a little bit of light as the height of the curtain/window is about 9 feet. Secondly, LED lights are soooo ugly. Ideally, I would carve out a little strip in the wood box of the window and insert the LED. Maybe you can get a diffuser strip so that you can't actually see the LED and it looks like a white strip? I doubt it, those LED usually always look like white dots. This would be a good alternative though (within the wood box) b/c then when both curtains are open, you wont' see a light fixture. I could also build a pelmet and then put the light in that, but those pelmets are a bit... bulky I think. Oh...I'm so demanding, I know.
I would use fluorescent (seem to be getting better), but I want it to be dim-able.
Any suggestions?
