leather care

perhaps a bit OT but what the hey - you guys (and girls) seem to have answers for most things

We have just purchased an old leather sofa to go in our sitting room - its a bit tatty and could do with something to rejeuvenaite the leather - some sort of polish/wax i presume - what are peoples opinions on the best (and most reasonably priced) solutions?

Sorry, not very good at leather restoration

I tend to get permision from the owners when I restore something.

I wonder what the poor cow it came off of would make of it all ?

I am sure someone on tnis site is much more clued up than I am on these matters.

Saddlesoap usually works but try a small inconspicuous area first.

There are various creams you can use. A good hardware shop should be able to supply what you need.

Well if you want to go cheap then saddlesoap to clean it and mink oil to treat the leather. I've had great success with the leatherique product on the leather in my Volvo. There are cracks in the leather that need to be attended to or it will start to tear apart. So if it is not in terrible shape you might do fine with the cheaper/readily available saddlesoap/mink oil.

My mother always used Connolly Hide Food Leather Cream on our leather chairs 50 years ago. They used to shine like a mirror.
I use it too.

Connolly as an official leather suppliers to the car industry alas went into receivership a few years ago, although yes you can still buy hide food.
