Kitchen units

Hi

Starting to think about embarking on the kitchen. Someone (Abi?) very helpfully gave a comparison on kitchen unit carcasses, but for the life of me I can't find it - can anyone help?

If it helps, if I were in the market for a kitchen I'd probably either look at the place I work for or Howdens.

My sister recently had a wren kitchen, not only was she caught out with the extra fitting charges but the doors are already chipping.

Just been replacing our kitchen and DIY Kitchens tops the Which list for kitchens. Didn't see it mentioned in the linked post and depending where you are you may be able to visit their showroom.

I'll add a second recommendation for DIY Kitchens. They've been really helpful. You have to do more of the planning yourself but if you send them your plans they'll check to ensure that you have everything and in our experience they have a wider selection of units than the other suppliers we visited. If you can visit the showroom outside York they have staff that can walk you through the design process in more detail.

Only experience I have had with Wren is they charged us £15 to have a door sample to see if suitable, was not so ended up with a £15 door. Anywhere else will loan you one not Wren.

If it helps, if I were in the market for a kitchen I'd probably either look at the place I work for or Howdens.

All well and good if you know a tradesman who can buy them for you!

If I was self fitting I'd probably sign up to a trade account as a 'property developer' or 'sole trader' or 'just starting out' or 'landlord with several properties in need of refitting'

If you can talk the talk and provide a letterhead or business card for your 'business'. You shouldn't have too much problem opening a cash account in your own name. If in doubt try towards the end of the month.

Tried once about 12 mths ago at Howdens, units seem fine but the problem is this stupid arrangement in that they will not sell to a DIYer, must lose an awful lot of business.

Wren also charge you twice for installation it appears - once for a 'dry fit' and once for a 'wet fit' (ie plumber).
