KITCHEN FLOORING

We are about to replace our kitchen floor and had set my heart on some Fired Earth Terracotta tiles but wondered if they would be cold underfoot??

Anyone got them? How do you find them?

Also, does anyone know of any really good quality replicas they can recommend??

I had terracotta tiles from fired earth installed in my previous house. After laying they have to be treated first with linseed oil than wax (the fitter did this for us).

They look wonderful, but they do require some maintenance. If you drop bleach on them it cuts right through the finish and makes a mark (our then cleaning lady was a former amateur lady discus champion and was a little clumsy at times with the bleach bottle). Similarly hot oil will make a mark. Waxing every few months is needed to keep them looking nice.

I guess they might have been a little cold underfoot, but I dont really remember that being an issue.

Our current house has underfloor heating in the basdement kitchen and lacquered laminate flooring. This is certainlty warm, and easier to maintain.
