Nothing.
Well, we are keeping the steps (which may be original), but removing the 1930's porch around them. Commissioning some iron railings either side of the steps, stripping all of the paint from the house, removing the cement render, lime rendering the clay lump and then limewashing.

That porch really was a most peculiar design. It would have been so easy to have been made larger and thus not to compromise the overall entrance effect of the steps and fanlight. Still, it's history now.

Agree Penners. The porch itself was very strange construction....the side walls seem to have been built to withstand a bomb blast, whereas the entire roof (behind the front lintel) was plasterboard supported on three 2x1's....and then lead on top of that. The plasterboard was sopping wet (seems the seams on the lead had lifted) and the wood was quite rotten.
Have kept the pier capping, wondering how I can reuse in the house/garden rather than just sell to a salvage place

Oh! That has AMAZINGLY beautified your house! Well done- great decision, great job done. As the others have remarked, the fanlight is lovely, and completely necessary to the design of the house.
Pier capping, keep for a future folly, or a wall? (sounds like you might have had enough of walls though). We have architectural features like that plonked at the end of beds - I'm not really sure how successful they are though, in enhancing the garden - but at least a few less spots to weed!

Like the idea of the pier caps for the garlic. Then, when you are giving tours of the grounds, you can point them out and explain how they once formed part of a misguided porch, and say, with justification I think on this occasion, that you have restored the house to former glory!

Hope it wasn't someone's way of curing a tendency of the front wall to bow outwards - it was a pretty substantial pair of buttresses - and I think that I spotted a tie plate.
This only came to mind because I had similar (though as yet un-executed ) idea for strengthening my front wall after lowering the ground level
No tie plate...in fact the whole porch was only tied in with a single brick towards the base of either side wall.
The porch was also added a good 150 years after the original house was constructed and there has been no movement. I think it was just a case of overdoing the brickwork.
Anyway, bricks and rubble all cleared away now, railings have been commissioned and now planning on doing some stripping this weekend
