joist suppliers? 5 1/2 x 3

I am renovating and am in need of some joists but can't find a supplier- recommendations
for suppliers to the Surrey area (or online timber merchants) is very welcome.

My joists are apparently a non-standard 5 1/2 x 3 1/8. The 3 1/8 is not so important but obviously to match
with my existing floor height the 5 1/2 is of concern. My local timber merchants only supply 6inch joists.
Disaster!

Does your timber merchant not have a saw bench? It would be very easy to cut 1/2-inch off of a 6-inch joist.

Your local sawmill will be happy to make them to the size you want. Ours charged us for the next normal size up.

We just asked for ours to be sawn to size and paid for the size of wood that they were, not the next size above.

A wonderful timber merchants in Peckham* planed big thick boards to be an exact match to the originals in our son's house. Some subtle staining and several years wear and tear, and you can't see the difference.

I'd love to refer you to Honeysuckle Bottom Sawmills in East Horsley - just for the name! But I think they only cut native hardwoods.

I needed some 5x2 sharpish and couldnt wait the 5 days for the big named merchants to get it to me (i live in kent, not tarensay) i went to my local family run merchant and they ripped down some 9x2 leaving them with 4x2 to sell on...

speak to a human at a local merchant, rather than a jewson/buildcentre/travis robot.

Do you want sawn or planed timber (rough or smooth). Your timber yard should supply what you want though it might cost you dearly!!. So if they are to match existing joist, sound as though you will want planed, so a 6" planed would be only about 5 3/4", so a bit more taken off will results in your 5 1/2", don't know about the 4", you will just have to ask. If you local supplier can't handle this job, find some one who can.
