The small village of Doel in Blegium is due to be completely demolished to make way for an expansion of the port of Antwerp (which may never actually be built). More, inlcuding an e-petition to the regional government, here:

That's very Doelful news Gareth. I've supported the petition, though their vision of an artistic community seems even more giddlily idealistic than some of my own hare-brained schemes. Have you been there?

Pah! Villages. Who needs 'em? The world would function much more efficently if we got rid of all those untidy houses, and the people who live in them.

Nice neat rows of cranes and containers. That's what we need.

As for the quality of the English translation, I reckon it's considerably better than 90% of the British population could manage. :roll:

Hopefully the resesson will slow the development. Global warming and the associated sea level rise will then sort out that village (and the nuclear power station) enlarging the port rather more than planned for.
