I suppose some could be turned into something decorative, but £55? Clearly there is a market as it's a trade seller and he's listed plenty of them.

I once had a chance to get a primus type vertical blowlamp that was used to heat up both reinforce bars to bend them and to heat up the middle of these tie bars when they ran from front to rear of a house.The nuts were screwed up as the bar expanded. When it cooled down the tie contracted putting stain on the walls.
The chap who had them threw them on a skip.

Saw a tie bar installed in the 50s,about ten galvanised buckets were hung from it with butchers hooks and then filled with burning coke,the nuts were tightened,the buckets were then removed and the walls began moving with mortar crumbling,the walls were repointed later and the cottage then restored,it looked a treat when finished.I revisited the area a couple of years ago to see the cottage has now gone and a block of flats is there now!.

There was someone in the USA selling 'submarine depth gauges', brass pressure gauges calibrated in feet of water, and asking several hundred pounds for them.
I've got several identical ones in my shed, they're all altitude gauges that came out of various sordid boiler rooms. I wasn't aware that there were any fresh water submarines.

Indeed, but not Royal Navy ( nor any other navy) submarines, which is what these gauges were/are being sold as.
They were bog-standard brass boiler room gauges, not the sort of thing you'd entrust with a submarine and the lives of the crew.

It isn't, but depth gauges are fussy about the type of water. A gauge from a real sub would be calibrated in metres, or feet, of salt water, have a serial number, calibration certification, etc., etc..
