Apparently it's now in its fourth year, targeted at the "affluent and discerning consumers" who own listed buildings. Mike Wye seems to be a regular there.

I have no idea as to if it is "any good" as you put it. I had my own invitation through the post to go but have decided not to go. Mainly because i don't subscribe to being pigeonholed as "affluent" or Discerning" . Pretentiousness is not a very becoming trait. I agree it might be interesting to go but, just because i live in a particular property does not make me any better than anyone living in a tent it just means i may have more money than the other person and its that attitude i take offence at.
I have been to similar in the past and although they can be , i find its just another excuse to pack you in like sheep, herd you round and try to get you buy all manner of things you neither want, need or have any interest in.

Moo, check out the website, and see if you think their policy statements appeal. I have to say that it was very useful to me in the early days, about 10 years ago, and I was a Member, but have found personal experiences of old houses, and this site far more helpful, especially on a down to earth basis.

No doubt it would makea good day out though!

It would seem to be yet another way for the Listed Property Owners' Club (a profit-making business linked to an insurance broker, and not a 'club' in the usual sense of the word) to relieve you of yet more money. All the advice and more for which the LPOC expects members to stump up £55 is available on PeriodProperty.co.uk for free, although you don't get the ego-massage of 'affluence and discernment' here!
Better to spend your money on a subscription to SPAB.

I went one year - nothing special but my brother used two companies who were exhibiting - a specialist plasterworks company and secondary glazing company - which he was really pleased with. It was useful to chat to people directly about their products.

Yuck - yuck yuck yuck. How I hate and despise snobbish statements like that. Maybe my own reverse snobbery, I don't know - is that not just saying "poor people don't bother"? Or is it just saying "rich AND stupid enough to believe this twaddle? If so come along!"

They're limiting their market rather - most people I know with old buildings, if they ever did have any money then it doesn't last for long!

Moo, don't think for a second I'm having a go at you for posting it, as I'm not -It's their statement, not yours. Shame is I'm sure there are some good exhibitors, but I would bet that there's a lot of over-priced tat there as well if that's how they market it.

Funnily enough it was the rather demanding reminders to renew the £50 (as it was then) membership that switched me off.

I find their entire attitude is actually rather insulting on the whole, not to mention their "unless you join us you are worthless" approach.

Yes, it was. I quoted it because I was mildly amused by the implied assumption that people who live in listed houses are all well orf.

It could just as easily apply to old properties.
