I found two dead on the window sill last year but in the only room upstairs without carpet, put some synethic stuff down a month or two ago and just found this guy on the wall.

Yep. If you value your carpets, curtains, bedding, clothing (almost any textile|) you need to get rid asap and leave no stone unturned.

Sometimes I think it'd be easier to take the whole house back to brick and start from the beginning....
Yes, looks carpet beetle to me.
We had an infestation two years ago. I attacked like a lunatic with powder, spray and vacate "smoke" bombs, and then left some treated paper under the carpets.
Fingers crossed not had any re-occurrence since.
