After being given LBC, I have taken down a later (Victorian) free standing (and dangerously leaning and wobbly) chimney brick by brick in my 1650's farmhouse. Most of the bricks have survived intact and I have painstakingly cleaned each one of the old lime mortar. At present this sooty and and rather baked mix is sitting in bags awaiting its further fate. Does anyone know if there is a good use for old sooty lime mortar, or should I ditch it? Presumably it could just go straight into the ground as it is a benign substance.
