Is it just me, or does the site still have some glitches?

Repeated requests to be logged in automatically have (occasionally) been successful.
But even then, when I've wanted to post a response, I'm sometimes asked to log in.
On the other hand (like now) when the automatic log-in seems to have failed, and I've had to click the log-in box, I occasionally notice that I still don't register as someone browsing the forum.

Does anyone else have these experiences?

Could the system please make up its mind about the whole log-in business?


ps Other than that, I'm getting to like the new set-up and memories of the old one are fading fast.

There it goes again.
At the top of the page it says I'm logged in and in the same breath, so to speak, it states that no-one is browsing the forum.

If this goes on I may well have a bad attack of emoticons!

As tend to know when I'm browsing I don't look to see if it is telling me i am

I think though the back end has some sort of refresh rate and as such you won't be visible straight away.

As for teh auto log on bit, I'm not sure why you are having trouble, as I have not had any at all - apart from my initial register one!!!!!!

Auto Login has never worked for me, although you may not show as being on line at the top of the forum for some considerable time if ever at the bottom of the page where you Login in it shows you immediately

Auto login works for me at work but not at home for some reason..! tho at home it does remember my password so logging in isn't that much hassle i just have to remember to do it..

If you're having trouble being automatically logged in, I reckon the most likely reason is the Privacy settings in Internet Explorer (assuming this is the browser you're using).

If you think this could be your problem, try this:

In Internet Explorer, click Tools>Internet options>Privacy tab. This will show you the level of your privacy settings - you can adjust the slider if you want to, but you don't have to.

Now click the Sites button, and you'll see a list of the websites that are "managed" by your system. Enter the URL for PPUK in the address box (http://www.periodproperty.co.uk) and click Allow.

This should instruct your system to allow PPUK to place a cookie in your IE files, so that, after you next tick the appropriate "log me in automatically" box for this forum, you are recognised thereafter. Bear in mind that this won't happen as soon as you've clicked Allow - you must re-instruct PPUK to log you in automatically.

This comes with no guarantee whatsoever that (a) it is the cause of your problem, or (b) it will cure it! But you could give it a try.

Thanks for that, Penners. But I use the Mac's built-in thingy called Safari, rather than Explorer, so your instructions don't apply. However, Macs being such friendly beasts I'm sure I'll find my way to the relevant bit.

By the way, do you find those blinking emoticons an irritating distraction? I've noticed that, thank goodness, very few people have been using them, so perhaps they'll eventually give up and go away.

ps have you solved your thatch problem yet? I really will settle down and grapple with my inertia very soon.

Oh, the blinking emoticons don't fuss me that much. I may even have been guilty... I beg forgiveness. I have plenty of other blinking irritations in my life!

Yes, I'm sure that the Safari browser will have a similar privacy setting somewhere in its intestines - unless a Mac takes care of this with a built-in firewall. Not being a Mac user I'm afraid I can't help on that.

I haven't yet managed to collar an idle thatcher to ask his advice about daughter's bits of string, but I live in hope...!

Now, I reckon that was a valid, appropriate and fully justifiable use of an emoticon - but you may not agree!
