Can anyone help ? Looking to expose the beams in my dinning room, so lifted some floorboards in my bedroom to make sure they were decent enough to expose. I then found that it has a built in hole that has been boarded over top and bottom. This is at the front of the house. Also there is a second front door to my house that has been rendered over ???. 3 bed semi believed to be built in 1830 Eling Hampshire.

I think we need more information. Size and shape of the opening? Relationship to original door locations and chimney/s? Could this be a stairwell?
As an aside, exposing timbers which weren't originally meant to be exposed is a modern fad. If the ceiling you are planning to remove is original, I'd urge you to consider leaving it alone.

My son lived in an 1850s terrace which had a large trapdoor (one joist cut through) to get furniture upstairs as the "stairs in a cupboard" were too tight.(We found this after removing an upstairs window, parking a van outside standing on its roof and passing beds, wardrobes etc through the window!).
Hatch is 4foot long and 2foot wide and is inbetween the two front doors witch are far right and far left of house. Have been trying to find out if the building was always used as a house as it only has one fireplace, this seems to be very large fire for such a small space
