Hi guys,
I was hoping for some advice, I am currently renovation and property built in the 1800's which is made up of stone, and brick with a lime mortar. However over the years they've added bits of cement around the property, for the most part its not an issue, I'll be able to remove the cement without too much trouble, and the plan is use woodfiber insulation with a lime render to keep it breathable. My issue is in one side of the house they have cement rendered the whole of the kitchen and master bedroom upstairs. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with studding a wall out with an air gap, and then installing a vapour barrier and then plasterboarding on top.
Has anyone done this themselves and then had a damp issue afterwards? Has anyone also installed an MVHR in order to regulate the moisture in the air?
I've attached some photos of the different materials used on the walls, open to suggestions for other options, I think stripping the cement render off is going to be a huge job that I would rather not do.
And additionaly the whole of the property has been pebble dashed with a cement render, I'm hoping to leave it for a while whilst I finish the whole house, and then maybe save up to replace in the future.
Thanks in advance!
