I remember the previous owners working steadily, by hand, to repair the main section, it was a real labour of love .

Oh, I so agree. Have to say thats half the reason why I watch Country House Rescue, and actually the fact that the houses are not in the most restored condition makes them even more desirable!

I love Country House Rescue too. I just wish she'd tell me a way I could fund the transformation of mine into a mini-country-house.

Me too, I loved last weeks, it really was in a pickle. Oddly, when I saw the trailer I thought that a good way forward would be use trainee craftsmen/people to help restore it. Place to visit me thinks.

It was a great one, but I have to say there seems to be a common personality trait of most of the families involved, inertia!! Or a tendency towards it. That family will achieve very little there, not because they 'take time to do it properly', but because they will not get their backsides and energy behind the scheme. I would be so happy to go and help them out, not to make it like a theme park, or over restore - far from it, but to kick them up the collective backsides and get them to push forward and do SOMETHING! It was infuriating to watch. I guess thats why most of the families are in the position they are, that they all have a tendency to be victim like and helpless and sit back while their house crumbles around their ears. There was so much this family could have done without the need for investment! The one exception to this was the house a few weeks ago with the young family, his mother and her mother in law - the one with the maze plans - and what was different about them? The young couple had get up and go, and they got up and went as soon as pointed in the right direction!

Sometimes I think these families deserve to lose the houses for the lack of effort they put into them, they are so lucky to have them!

Sorry, rant over (where did that come from??) - and I so enjoy the programme! And as I said earlier, I actually don't want to see them turned into over restored mansions, but just taken forward positively!

Abi - I enjoyed your little rant and I know what you mean regarding all those posh folk on Country House Rescue (though I didn't feel it so much about the first lady in Plas whatsit in Wales, and I haven't yet seen last week's one), but don't you think the programme manipulates our responses to a stereotype (posh people with no gumption) a bit?

Personally I never believe anything I see on telly, especially when it's milking our emotions one way or the other. I think we rarely get the whole picture, and quite often we get a pack of lies!

Also, my heart goes out to anyone facing even more challenges than the ones I face every day. BC is tiny compared to those estates, but even so I feel overwhelmed and despairing from time to time, and sit round not doing much. Fortunately I have this lovely forum and all my gorgeous internet friends to cheer me up, as well as lovely Penners' wise remark "how do you eat an elephant - a spoonful at a time" which is something I think of every day.

You're quite right of course, and I'm a super audience as I always get taken in! Perhaps to minimise my own gullability, I can claim its somewhere in the middle - that these owners are somewhat lacking in gumption, but that the TV cameras/directors milk it for all its worth.

The only thing I would say here is that yes, there are a stack of jobs you find it hard to tackle, but you are not facing BC falling down around your ears, or being sold from under you because you can't afford to pay the mortgage, both of which scenarios would certainly be enough to send me scurrying for any advice I could get, and following it.

'Im indoors is working for our local Waitrose----- gives him a good opportunity to glean all the local gossip, and has led him to discover that there are parts of Bedfordshire which have some surprisingly interesting people and some lovely untouched bits of countryside, but, more importantly, :wink: it keeps him out of mischief.

Yes, no sarcasm intended, I'd be very happy to work for waitrose! Or JLP come to that! We have one just opened in our local market town (waitrose that is), and they kept on the staff from the Somerfield that was there before it - amazingly, those staff went through a complete personality change overnight! Suddenly nothing was too much trouble! Incredible!
