Hi everyone, we have just bought a mid terraced thatched house which was insured by NFU and we thought that we could just continue to have insurance with NFU. But to our surprise NFU said that they can't insure this house anymore because they stopped insuring mid terraced houses from April 2023. After that we have contacted at least 5 other insurance companies specialised on thatched an none of them wanted to insure our house. Then one insurance company didn't say no at first, but after al the questions they said that our chimney is not high enough, despite that our fireplace is closed and we will not use it. It feels quite frustrating as we need to be insured and it is almost impossible to find someone who wants to insure mid terraced. It is hundreds of mid terraced houses in UK, how are they all insured? We are located in Wiltshire and her is particularly quite many thatched houses.
Can anyone who recently bought a mid terraced please share who you are insured with and what is the cost of insurance please? Thank you in advance for any replies.
