Insulating under concrete suspended floor

Morning all,

We have a front room that is suspended, it's steel guides with rectangle concrete blocks dropped in. We have had carpet, and thick underlay put down which has made a difference.

The issue is the cellar beneath the front room is basically a stone shed, it's bloody cold so they carpet is always cold. I've been thinking about putting netting and rockwool insulation on the ceiling of the cellar (front roof floor) is this a good idea? Or does anybody have a more sensible action to take? Don't want to end up creating more of an issue.

Ooh, a nice cold-store.

Do you get condensation on the underside of the floor? On the concrete or the steel?
If not, I don't think netting/rockwool would do any harm.
And if you want to make the cellar more pleasant you could at a later date put in a wood ceiling with the insulation above it.

No all seems to be fine on the condensation front, just feels cold on the carpet.

The plan is at some point to turn the cellar into a room (it's at ground level), but that's somewhere down the pecking order for doing.

A block and beam floor (which is what you've got there) is modern and impervious, you can do pretty much what you want with it. I'm presuming you've got concrete cast over the lot, then underlay and carpet.

If you've future thoughts for the cellar then I'd do the insulation from underneath with Celotex/Kingspan boards. But - if you can live with the extra floor height, some extra insulation on top will help the "feel" I'm sure.

This is meant for under tiles but I see no reason why it wouldn't work under underlay and carpet, it doesn't crush very easily.

Thank you for the reply. Yes it pretty much as you described, I am going to stick some insulation underneath and see if it makes a difference.
