Dear All.
Having recently moved into a 300 year old stone cottage, and being fed up with the cold, I have taken it upon myself to insulate the loft area (attic rooms).
previous occupants at some time have converted the loft space into 2 attic rooms, using the usual chipboard on the floor, plasterboard nailed directly to the beams method.
There is currently no insulation whatsoever in this area. I have already isulated the area between the internal upright walls of the room and the eaves, but would like your advice on how to insulate between the plasterboard and the rafters on the sloping roof.
I have considered using 50mm polystyrene blocks and pushing them up the gap, but one of the delights of owning such an old house, as im sure your aware is that nothing is straight, and I am having mixed success with this.
The questions I have are:
1, Should I purserveer with the method as far as I can?
2. Remove a central section of the plasterboard (like a letter box) and slide the board in both directions from there?
3. Use a different material? The rafters are about 50mm wide, and I am using 50mm poly blocks.
4. Any other suggestions?
Unfortunately the christmas period and other reasons deny me the time or disposable income to rip the whole lot out and start from scratch.
Your advice, past experience, or ridicule for starting such a job at this time of year would be most welcome.
Regards
Rob
