Hi, been a while since I posted last..
I'm currently doing the easy bit while the builders are doing the rest of the house.
Our 1750ish timber framed, wattle and daub panelled (and other non original infills) house was originally 2 tiny one-up-one-down houses, it now has a 2 story extension on the back which has enlarged it to a 'small' house!
One of the inglenooks has been redone at some point with a gas fake woodburner. The other was covered up with breeze blocks and bricks. I have partially uncovered it, just partially for structural reasons at the moment as timber frame repairs are ongoing.
It looked like there was a victorian sized smaller fireplace there at some time as there was a slight outline of a metal hood, with traces of a floor level small fireback. With this out, there looks to be a full width brick structure (I'll try to attach a photo) with a raised fireplace in the middle, and also some large iron 'staple' things on each side which look like they perhaps hold up the brickwork above, or somehow slide out to hang things on?
Just curious if this inner blackenned brickwork is in itself a fireplace, or part of something else? any ideas? I've researched a fair bit and can't find anything looking like it.
