Information on wallpaper find wanted…

We have recently moved into a Victorian cottage, it was built by the railway for their workers around 1870.
After realising the ceiling above the stairs was an addition, we decided to knock a wall out to build shelving in the void.
Not only did we discover two separate false ceilings were present, we also discovered this beautiful wallpaper. I’ve spent hours trying to find out more about it as I’d love something similar.
Can anyone help with approximate year, design, where it could have been printed etc. we feel it may have been the first wallpaper as it appears it could have been blocked off for around 100 years.

I can't help with the information you want, not that I think it'd help much, but it would be possible to cut out a whole-width strip from above the flower to below the next one, take it to a local printer, and ask them to scan it in and print (they'd also be able to digitally clean it up if necessary). Maybe you could take in some lining paper for them to print on.

Otherwise, I think it'd be cheaper if you looked at the search results for 'Victorian wallpaper'

Try a reverse image search on google.

We found some old wallpaper (1960's so not super old) above a suspended ceiling in our kitchen which I carefully removed (well it pretty much peeled off on its own), cleaned up and framed.

Thanks Ron,

I’ve just spent hours on the site and the best I can come up with it is an Ashlar design that became popular around 1850. Although some wallpapers still feature it!
There is also varying opinions on if it is arts and crafts or art nouveau? Or if the flower is a tulip or an iris.

All is not lost, I’ve found some beautiful designs that I love.

Hi - I’ve done a reverse google search, unfortunately nothing.

I love that you framed your paper, we have about five different ones I’m going to be doing the same with.
Luckily one had the strip down the side, so I could look up the year and that one was 1913, but I think this one is older. I’ll keep looking

I think the flower is rather loosely based on a bearded iris. Also, I would suggest earlier than Art Nouveau and just a full blown Victorian whimsical design.

Be careful what you wish for. We inherited a wonderful (but tatty) fleur de lis patterned wallpaper throughout our stairwell and landing. After much searching we traced it back to Cole & Son in Chelsea. They helpfully confirmed they could reprint it from their archives... for £550 per roll...!

OMG, if that’s the case, I’ll get a reproduction!
I do have to admit it has become a little bit of an obsession, so I’m sure I will find something that won’t break the bank.

Not yet, that’s probably the next step, that way I can also change the colours slightly too.
