Inconspicuous Electricity Meter Box?

We have LBC to relocate our elec meter (amongst other things) into a boundary wall to the front of our property which isn't visible from the street. As a result we now need to select a meter box. Firstly I was wondering whether you can get boxes that are more 'in keeping' with an older property?

If not I was wondering whether anyone has any suggestions on how to make this look less obtrusive or reduce its visual impact? So far I've only found either white or brown boxes, as a result we've been thinking we may need to paint it in some way so that it blends in with the wall.

We've just had a new mains gas supply installed and I was surprised to learn that it is not strictly necessary to have an externally-accessible meter box at all. I had already planned to have the meter installed in an outbuilding so that I wouldn't have a meter box on or near the house, but when discussing the job with the supply company it turned out they could install the new meter inside the outbuilding on a simple wall bracket, which is what they've done.

I appreciate this might not help if your meter is being relocated to a wall, as it will need some form of enclosure, but if you could move it to, say, a garage or similar then you wouldn't need a meter box at all.

Are you allowed to disguise the box with something like a dovecote?
